Special Executive Headshots Offer!

Come and listen to a story about a man named Ron,

A poor suburban bloke, barely kept his wife in flan,
Then one day he was shootin at some food (with his camera),
And up through the town came a photogenic dude.

Businessman that is, executive, VIP.

Well the first thing you know ol Ron's a takin' pix,
Signing fancy contracts with his trusty Bics,

Shooting headshots is the thing he ought to do,
So he loaded up his lights and he brought a gel or two.

Purple, that is. Reds and blues. Oranges, too.

Well now its time to say goodbye to Ron and all his kin.
And they would like to thank you folks for kindly droppin' in.
You're all invited back again to this locality,
To have a heapin helpin of their hospitality.

Photography that is. Set a spell, Have your portrait shot.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?

blender

It's what I'm currently calling a blender. I took small, relatively abstract portions from a Klimt, a Van Gogh, a Muench, and a Picasso, and a text layer, blended them all digitally in Photoshop and then applied a watercolor filter. If I'm feeling pretentious, I will call it a commentary on both generally accepted masterpiece and technology and how they interplay in contemporary culture. But I'm not feeling pretentious.

Conner

The gracious and generous Lesa Foto-graphy invited a gaggle of photographers to her studio today to celebrate her birthday and Conner, here, came along to model for us.  I think he has a bright future should he stick with the modeling.

New (ly updated) old website

So, I've been re-thunking my website situation.  For years, I had a site through a popular software company that shall remain nameless.  By way of some glitch, I couldn't access it for about a year!  Eeek!  Now they tell me that at the end of April everything changes and I have to move everything to their new system.  Um, no thanks.

I've also had a somewhat flashier flash site that was a bit awkward to work with and, I'm told, doesn't get seen by the 'bots that scour the internet for information.  So, SEO, right out the window -- along with customer traffic.

I decided to revamp a site that I've had, but wasn't doing much with through the fine chaps at Google (where I have blogs, G+, Gmail, etc. etc. --- if they ever turn evil, I'm screwed!).  And I'm currently pretty happy with it.  I may still move some pics around and make some minor changes, but here it is.

https://sites.google.com/site/ronwarrenphotography/home

Although my focus is still with weddings and events, I've chosen to showcase some other photographic interests of mine here as well (models, fine art, nature/wildlife, etc.etc.).

Feel free to share the site with others and let me know if you see any problems with it!  Greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Ron

hawks are at it again

So the hawks were near the top of a tree that was situated not too far from a little building that sports an outdoor staircase.  From the top of the staircase I had about as good a vantage point as I could probably hope for -- and, after a half hour of freezing and trying my patience, this is what I got.  Birdies get busy.

How the Canon ST-E3-RT Differs From PocketWizard Flex + Mini and Phottix Odins

How the Canon ST-E3-RT Differs From PocketWizard Flex + Mini and Phottix Odins:

Nice chart and content comparing the (formerly?) industry standard PocketWizards, the relatively new Phottix Odins, and the brand spankin' new Canon ST-E3-RT radio flash master/slave systems. I'm leaning to Phottix Odin for flexibility (especially now that I know it supports TTL and high-speed synch). That being said, I still get an awful lot of mileage out of my cheapo CowboyStudio triggers. Just sayin'....

First Impressions: Testing Canon’s New Speedlite 600EX-RT & Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT | PixSylated | Syl Arena's Blog on Light & Imagemaking:

Syl says, "The manual says that on pre-2012 cameras (anything other than 1D X and 5DM3), the system takes a one-stop hit in sync speed and that HSS is not possible."   This looks like an important caveat to keep in mind, but one of only a few.  Also, the transmitter doesn't have an AF assist beam, which Syl and I both agree would be welcome.
