real ghost in amongst the decorations

I took a picture of the Halloween decorations in front of my house.  This was shortly after dark.  I think I caught a real ghost in amongst all the fake ghouls and goblins.  Check it out for yourself...

Brian Day

On Friday evening we went to the DCCP's Open Show in the Russell Industrial Center and had the great opportunity to hear some local photographers and cinematographers present some work and speak about their art. Brian Day's monochrome Time Traveler series blew me away. Great photography in general and, specifically, a terrific use of the amazing Detroit background. Kudos!

I recommend that you check out the Time Traveler series, but also take a look at his other work. He is uber-talented and has a great eye for composition, mood, and telling story.

this is a nark, this is...

This is a nark..

this is a nark on drugs...

Found today on Mack Avenue in Detroit, just a bit east of Eastern Market.  The thing that drew me in and caused me to loop the block and shoot this was the absolutely compelling bit of curtains that were wafting out the window.

Hope you like it as much as I do.

Adobe demos blur removal software function (prototype at MAX) - 1001 Noisy Cameras:

Blur removal after the fact. I love the technology, but each advance is just another nail in the photographer's coffin, me thinks.

my adapter arrived!

So I think I mentioned previous how my terrific mother in law picked up a bag of old film gear at a garage sale for a buck. Camera, two lenses, two flashes, a few filters, and a cool old bracket. Well, my adapter for the Sears (Pentax) 135mm f2.8 came today from Fotodiox (via Amazon, $29.95).  Adapting Pentax (or Sears) K (or PK) mount to the Canon EF mount, specifically my trusty Canon 40D.

Adapter to camera, lens to adapter and off we go.  Turns out the lens kinda rocks!

Nice creamy bokeh at f2.8, which is the only setting I'm likely to use this lens at as I have other lenses to span the focal length, but now only two that go to f2.8 or beyond (wider).

So keep your eyes to those garage sales and maybe Ebay.  You might be pleasantly and inexpensively surprised!

aperture / shutter speed simulator

Revisiting this simulator that gives you a very nice idea how the two functions relate to each other.
